India is set to purchase Predator drones from General Atomics, with a letter of request for 31 drones worth $3bn expected during Prime Minister Modi’s visit to the US. Vivek Lall, CEO of General Atomics, called Modi’s visit a “watershed event” and praised him and President Biden for taking the defence relationship to the next level. Lall also highlighted the importance of industrial ties between the two countries for sustained growth in defence and technology. The acquisition will happen under the foreign military sales mechanism of the US Department of Defense.
