The Communist Party of India (Marxist) in West Bengal has been allowed to field candidates against the Trinamool Congress in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, as part of the anti-BJP alliance. The move comes as the opposition coalition faces the challenge of countering the BJP’s target of winning 35 of the 42 Lok Sabha seats in the state. The Congress party is also considering its strategy in Bengal, with concerns that an alliance with the ruling TMC could benefit the BJP. The TMC, however, is confident of winning the seats on its own.
