India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a new Parliament building on Sunday, with increased seating and state-of-the-art facilities. The ceremony, which included multi-faith prayers and the installation of a ceremonial sceptre, was boycotted by 22 opposition parties who had demanded that the President, rather than the Prime Minister, should have presided over the event. The new building, which cost ?971 crore ($130 million) to build, will replace the iconic circular building that was inaugurated in 1927.
