India's Supreme Court has reserved its verdict on petitions calling for the legal recognition of same-sex marriages. During the 10-day hearing, campaigners argued for equality rights for the LGBTQIA+ community, while the government maintained that marriage was only legally recognised between a biological man and woman. The court must now decide whether same-sex marriages can be recognised under the Special Marriage Act, or if a constitutional right to marry should be granted. The verdict is not expected before July 30, as the Supreme Court is on summer vacation until then.
