Centre rejects charge of targeted attacks against Christians, says FIRs only in 1/3rd of instances
The Indian government has denied allegations of targeted attacks against Christians in the country, stating that less than a third of the incidents alleged were true. Petitioners claimed that between 2021-2022, 495 incidents of targeted attacks against Christians occurred across eight states, but the government stated that only 155 incidents warranted registration of FIRs. The government added that many of the incidents had been exaggerated or wrongly projected, and that numerous disputes between two parties had been given a religious colour.
